Milk Lab Technician
About the role
The Milk Lab Technician performs highly specialized tasks related to the preparation, inventory, distribution, and management of Human Milk (HM), Donor Human Milk (DHM), and facility-prepared formulas for all neonatal and pediatric patients at Tampa General Hospital. This role also handles the inventory, distribution, and management of ready-to-feed enteral formulas for pediatric patients.
Additional responsibilities include demonstrating competencies in infection control principles, technical calculations (weights, measures, and metric conversions), knowledge of medical abbreviations and terminology, and familiarity with formula products and human milk additives. Effective communication with healthcare team members is essential.
Performs other duties as required and aligns with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, inventory, and distribute Human Milk (HM) and Donor Human Milk (DHM).
- Manage facility-prepared formulas for neonatal and pediatric patients.
- Handle inventory, distribution, and management of ready-to-feed enteral formulas for pediatric patients.
- Apply infection control principles in all tasks.
- Perform technical calculations, including weights, measures, and metric conversions.
- Interpret common medical abbreviations and terminologies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of formula products and human milk additives.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Associate's Degree in Food & Nutrition, Dietetics, or a relevant field or Bachelor's Degree in Food & Nutrition, Dietetics, or a relevant field.
- One of the following licenses/registrations:
- Registered Pharmacy Technician,
- Registered Dietetic Technician (DTR), or
- Infant Feeding Technician Certificate (must be obtained within 6 months of hire if a Pharmacy Technician).
Schedule
- Full-time, on-site role.
- Shift: Day (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM).
Pay
Minimum starting salary: $16.88 per hour.
