Milk Lab Technician

Summary of Job Duties

The Milk Lab Technician is responsible for safe preparation of infant feedings in accordance with current Human Milk Banking of North America (HMBANA) Guidelines and department policies. The technician is responsible for maintaining the aseptic environment of the Milk Lab. The technician is responsible for collection, storage, and inventory of breast milk. The Milk Lab Technician prepares feedings of breast milk and formula daily according to orders, recipes, and department policies. The technician is responsible for cleaning and stocking the Milk Lab. This position reports to the Milk Lab Manager.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• 1 year healthcare or food service related experience
• Human Milk Technician Certification

Additional Information

Responsibilities:

• Receives milk specimens, accurately label and log each sample into the lab’s tracking system, and store them appropriately (e.g., refrigeration, freezing).
• Performs routine tests (such as macronutrient content, microbiological assays, enzyme activity, pH measurements) following established protocols and SOPs.
• Cleans, maintains, and calibrates laboratory equipment (e.g., spectrophotometers, centrifuges, pH meters), documenting all maintenance activities and keeping logs up-to-date.
• Runs quality control samples, verify standards, troubleshoot inconsistencies, and ensure all data meet UAMS quality system requirements.
• Records all test results, track specimen IDs, and prepare preliminary data reports for lead scientists or supervisors.
• Maintains a clean, organized workspace.
