The Joint, Office of the Secretary of War, Interagency Division (JOID) provides expert support services to the Department of War (DoW), Federal Civilian, and international markets. The Acquisition and Technology Analysis Group within JOID specializes in multi-disciplinary analysis to support clients such as the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering (OUSW(R&E)), Office of the Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment (OUSW(A&S)), DARPA, Joint Staff, and USINDOPACOM. SPA delivers critical decision support to ensure technological superiority and the delivery of secure, resilient capabilities to the warfighter.

About the role

We have an immediate need for a Military Operations Intern to provide onsite support in Alexandria, VA during the fall of 2026. This part-time role (roughly 24+ hours per week, in-person) offers a unique opportunity to develop cutting-edge methodologies in a high-impact environment while addressing critical issues facing the DoD.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and assess emerging disruptive technologies and their potential impact on military capabilities over the next twenty years.
• Research, identify, and implement analytic methodologies across various projects.
• Assist in framing, developing, and presenting analysis, including drafting briefing materials and documents for executive audiences.
• Work with a multidisciplinary team to analyze complex problem spaces, such as emerging technology, military systems, financial analysis, and geospatial data.
• Apply or develop quantitative and technical approaches to support wargaming, modeling and simulation, policy analysis, and other qualitative methodologies.
• Support assessments, wargames, and workshops designed to identify and characterize emerging technologies addressing future military operational problems.
• Contribute to briefing materials that impact senior defense leader decisions.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Science, Analytics, Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• 0–2 years of experience analyzing technical and non-technical problems by developing research questions, implementing analytical methods, and presenting results.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, demonstrated multitasking ability, and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Interest in applying quantitative and analytic skills in support of national defense.
• U.S. Citizen with an active Secret clearance.

Qualifications (Desired)

• Excellent data gathering and analysis skills.
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
• Interest in emerging technology with military applications.

Pay

Salary range: USD $23.00/Hr. – USD $33.00/Hr.
