Migrant Graduation Specialist

What You'll Be Doing

  • Coordinate access to services available through school district and/or community for the purpose of strengthening communication, self-advocacy, and leadership skills.
  • Coordinate access to services available through school district and/or community for the purpose of reducing and/or eliminating identified barriers.
  • Coordinate with school counselor, teachers, and other appropriate staff for the purpose of developing a caseload of migrant students most at-risk of not meeting state academic and achievement standards.
  • Coordinate and ensure access to other services for the purpose of migrant students being eligible and entitled to receive such services.
  • Develop mentor relationship with student caseload for the purpose of facilitating needs of migrant students and their families.
  • Facilitate understanding by student and family of district requirements toward graduation, including High School and Beyond Plan for the purpose of meeting student graduation requirements.
  • Facilitate access to school counselor and teaching staff regarding academic needs, including class scheduling for the purpose of ensuring access to required courses for graduation and transition to postsecondary education or employment.
  • Identify the barriers including educational disruption, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, various health related problems, or other factors that inhibit the ability of selected migrant students for the purpose of meeting state academic and achievement standards.
  • Implement a case management model focused on providing supplemental support and intervention strategies for the purpose of addressing the unique needs of migrant students.
  • Maintain on-going communication with counselor, students, families and other staff regarding the progress of the student for the purpose of achieving established goals and transition to next grade level, graduate, or pursue postsecondary opportunities or employment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities for the purpose of strengthening skills in working with at-risk migrant students including consolidating credits, determining high school of graduation, motivational techniques, and reporting requirements.
  • Work with school counselor for the purpose of monitoring attendance, discipline, credits/grades, and other social/academic issues that may impact the students ability to successfully transition to next grade level, graduate, or pursue postsecondary opportunities or employment.
  • Work with the districts Migrant Education Federal Programs director and school staff for the purpose of identifying and establishing program and student goals in alignment with the districts local plan and the State Service Delivery Plan.

What You'll Need

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in job-related area required.
  • Experience: Related experience required.
  • Bilingual required.
  • Experience working independently, semi-independently and in a collaborative teams.
  • Written and verbal communication skills in English and primary language of target population (Spanish) required.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups, work with data of varied types and/or purpose, problem solving to identify issues and create action plans.
  • Flexible work schedule.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.
