Summary

Assists, provides and supports secondary migrant students with strengthening their opportunities for graduation, college and career readiness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consistently works in a positive and collaborative manner with student families, district employees and external resources, allowing for quality student service
  • Responsible for maintaining program database, having knowledge of secondary school programs, as well as state and local graduation requirements
  • Works closely with district and school staff to communicate critical information in a timely manner
  • Meets with each student/family found migrant to assess provisions available within the school district
  • Assist migrant students toward school success by providing "wrap around" services specific to student needs
  • Assist school personnel in obtaining necessary documents (health records, previous school records, etc.)
  • Assist school personnel in making referrals to community resources on a case-by-case basis
  • Coordinate and collaborate with community resources, school personnel, and district office personnel in assuring students and families have their needs met
  • Communicates and collaborates in an ongoing manner with school personnel (i.e. counselor, administration, office support, etc.) on student needs in the area of academics, attendance, class scheduling, discipline, credits/grades, social/emotional, graduation and postsecondary education/opportunities
  • Provide a monthly log of activities to the Title I Administrator
  • Responsible for safeguarding confidential information as a member of the School Migrant Support Team
  • Demonstrates flexibility to perform duties and responsibilities whenever volume deems necessary
  • Participates in monthly meetings and trainings scheduled by supervisor
  • Assumes responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development through such efforts as reading professional journals and other publications
  • Seeks assistance should emergencies arise
  • Represents the school district in a positive manner
  • Knows and follows school district policy and chain of command
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

To perform job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. English/Spanish speaking (bilingual). Cultural experience with at-risk, poverty and migrant families.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma required
  • Post high school education preferred
  • Bilingual - Spanish required

  • Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary; organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frame
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form
  • Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing (Microsoft Office), spreadsheets (Excel), database (Access), presentation software and accounting/financial software

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit; occasionally walk and stand and reach with hands and arms; occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision; very good depth perception; and the ability to communicate through speech

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside and meets deadlines with severe time constraints in a fast paced environment on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
