Midstream Automation Engineer

About the role

As a Midstream Automation Engineer at Devon, you will participate in the design, installation, and support of control systems for production facilities, salt water disposal facilities, compressor stations, and other product/processing-related infrastructure. You will act as a technical resource for the automation of various facilities through the implementation of effective technologies and process improvements to optimize production and organizational operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support and technical guidance to end users and plant personnel for existing control systems and HMIs.
• Participate in the design phase of new projects, including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), design documents and drawings, and PLC/HMI programming.
• Demonstrate expert knowledge of PLC, HMI, and Flow Computer software and hardware.
• Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex tests on control systems.
• Maintain and further develop interfaces between field automation and SCADA systems.
• Apply a strong understanding of industrial communications (Ethernet/IP, ModbusTCP, ModbusRTU, etc.).
• Provide checkout and start-up support for new facilities and equipment.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical); Control emphasis preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a related role.
• Expert understanding of computer programming and software development for PLCs, HMIs, and Flow Computers, with an emphasis on Allen Bradley (Rockwell Logix 5000), Emerson Remote Operations Controllers (ROCs), and Red Lion HMIs.
• Experience with 120V, 480V, and 24VDC systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

• Work is typically performed both indoors and outdoors.
• Must be able to physically and legally operate company-owned vehicles.
• Work requires walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and climbing.
• Exposure to extreme heat or cold is likely.
• Must physically visit operational areas such as drilling, completions, or production sites.
• Personal protective equipment (PPE) required, including head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame-resistant clothing.
• Strict adherence to safety rules, including OSHA and DOT requirements.
• Willingness to travel and work extended hours on short notice.

Travel: 10% - 15% for mandatory meetings, training, and field visits.
