Middle School French Teacher & Department Chair

About the role

The Middle School French Teacher & Department Chair position at Thayer Academy is a full-time, salaried position reporting to the Middle School Director. This role includes teaching French to students in grades 5-8, serving as an advisor for 7th graders, and leading the World Languages Department as Department Chair if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Teach 5 French classes to Middle School students
• Serve as an advisor for the 7th grade
• Lead the World Languages Department as Department Chair (if applicable)
• Apply practices in the classroom and other settings that foster equity, inclusion, and belonging among Thayer Academy community members
• Engage in ongoing professional development

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree is required, with a master’s (or higher) preferred in Education, French, or a related field
• 5-7 years of teaching experience at the Middle School level preferred
• Passion for working with middle schoolers and a desire to build relationships
• Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community
• Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in the classroom, in curriculum, and in relationships with members of the school community
• High level of comfort and experience with technology in an educational setting
• Willingness to work on a team in a collaborative department
• Ability to communicate and listen effectively with students and families

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Design Thinking or project-based learning curriculum development
• Experience with Responsive Classrooms or other SEL curriculum and training
• Willingness to incorporate metacognition into lessons

Benefits

Compensation: Salary Range - $74,345 - $90,000. Competitive salary and benefits.
