Windermere Preparatory School is seeking a credentialed educator for 6th-8th grade World Languages, with a heavy emphasis on French; Spanish experience is a plus but not required.

About the role

Topics of study include elements of communication, commonalities across languages, international mindedness, and global perspective within the Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, teach, and assess within the MYP framework
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including inquiry-based learning and project-based learning
  • Serve as a grade level mentor
  • Work with grade level and department teams
  • Select and plan appropriate learning and teaching activities aligned with Windermere Preparatory School and Nord Anglia Education
  • Exercise good classroom management with fair and consistent standards
  • Encourage students to confidently and freely ask questions
  • Use a wide range of assessment strategies consistent with course content and objectives
  • Provide reports on student progress and maintain open communication
  • Differentiate instruction and assessment to meet diverse student needs
  • Identify students needing additional academic assistance and influence needed actions
  • Provide opportunities for student expression using spoken, written, and electronic forms of communication
  • Develop lessons that engage students in higher order thinking
  • Provide a safe learning environment where students can take intellectual risks
  • Use learning resources and technology to enhance lessons
  • Create a stimulating and challenging learning environment with effective use of classroom displays
  • Develop student cooperation and tolerance through group work
  • Create an environment that fosters a global mindset
  • Create an atmosphere of mutual respect
  • Assist students in taking responsibility for their own actions
  • Encourage students to set realistic goals and use time constructively
  • Encourage students to participate in the co-curricular life of the school
  • Assign meaningful and appropriate homework
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Attend functions in support of school and community
  • Attend all required meetings
  • Maintain student portfolios and facilitate student-led conferences following division requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in French, Spanish, or World Language Education (required)
  • Master’s Degree (preferred)
  • Florida teaching certification
  • 3-5+ years relevant teaching experience, preferably in the private sector
  • IB experience (highly preferred)
  • Ability to articulate the Mission, Vision, and Values of Windermere Preparatory School and Nord Anglia Education
  • Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction within the appropriate content area and/or grade level
  • Ability to function as a student achievement advocate and advisor
  • In-depth understanding of the school’s Academic Plan (MAP) and ability to articulate it to parents and students
  • Outstanding listening and problem-solving skills
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly developed presentation skills
  • Effective organizational skills, including lesson planning, unit implementation, and assessment design
  • Ability to monitor student progress and report information in a timely manner
  • Ability to manage, delegate, and monitor tasks
  • Ability to mentor and coach students
  • Highly developed collaborative leadership skills
  • Ability to work well with and through others
  • Ability to prioritize and align resources with academic priorities
  • Ability to foster and maintain a positive school climate
  • Understanding of the 4 C’s of 21st Century Teaching & Learning
  • Sense of humor
