Middle School French Teacher

About the role

Windermere Preparatory School is seeking a credentialed educator for 6th–8th grade World Languages, with a heavy emphasis on French; Spanish experience is a plus but not required. Topics of study include elements of communication, commonalities across languages, international mindedness, and global perspective.

Responsibilities

• Plan, teach, and assess within the MYP framework
• Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including inquiry-based learning and project-based learning
• Serve as a grade-level mentor
• Work with grade-level and department teams
• Select and plan appropriate learning and teaching activities aligned with Windermere Preparatory School and Nord Anglia Education
• Exercise good classroom management with fair and consistent standards
• Encourage students to confidently and freely ask questions
• Use a wide range of assessment strategies consistent with course content and objectives
• Provide reports on student progress and maintain open communication
• Differentiate instruction and assessment to meet diverse student needs
• Identify students who need additional academic assistance and influence needed actions accordingly
• Provide opportunities for student expression using spoken, written, and electronic forms of communication
• Develop lessons that engage students in higher-order thinking
• Provide a safe learning environment in which students can take intellectual risks
• Use learning resources and technology to enhance lessons
• Create a stimulating and challenging learning environment with effective use of classroom displays
• Develop student cooperation and tolerance through group work
• Create an environment that fosters a global mindset
• Create an atmosphere of mutual respect
• Assist students in taking responsibility for their own actions
• Encourage students to set realistic goals and use their time constructively and in a balanced manner
• Encourage students to participate in the co-curricular life of the school
• Assign meaningful and appropriate homework
• Maintain accurate records

• Attend all required meetings
• Maintain student portfolios and facilitate student-led conferences following division requirements

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in French, Spanish, or World Language Education (required)
• Master’s Degree (preferred)
• Florida teaching certification
• 3–5+ years of relevant teaching experience, preferably in the private sector
• IB experience (highly preferred)
• Ability to articulate the Mission, Vision, and Values of Windermere Preparatory School and Nord Anglia Education
• Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction within the appropriate content area and/or grade level
• Ability to function as a student achievement advocate and advisor
• In-depth understanding of all elements, goals, and instructional best-practice strategies embodied in the school’s Academic Plan (MAP)
• Outstanding listening and problem-solving skills
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
• Highly developed presentation skills
• Effective organizational skills, including lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, designing and implementing assessments
• Ability to monitor student progress and report information in a timely manner
• Ability to manage, delegate, and monitor tasks
• Ability to mentor and coach students
• Highly developed collaborative leadership skills and the ability to work well with and through others
• Ability to prioritize and expend allotted resources in alignment with stated academic priorities
