Responsibilities
- Provide personalized 1-on-1 online tutoring to middle school students.
- Accept on-demand tutoring requests when available.
- Guide students through literary analysis, informational text comprehension, grammar, writing conventions, vocabulary development, and research skills.
- Prepare students for high school English and standardized assessments by explaining theme analysis, figurative language, essay structure, and citation practices.
- Integrate reading, writing, grammar, and oral communication instruction tailored to middle school English Language Arts standards.
- Adapt instruction using diverse materials and methods to support students at varying proficiency levels.
- Identify and address common student struggles with concepts like literary analysis depth, essay organization, and grammar application.
- Use multiple teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs and styles.
Requirements
- Advanced subject mastery in middle school English, including literary analysis, grammar, writing conventions, vocabulary, argumentative and narrative writing, research skills, and speaking/listening competencies.
- Familiarity with middle school ELA standards for grades six through eight and common instructional challenges.
- Ability to adapt instruction for diverse learning styles and student needs.
- Strong communication skills and an engaging, friendly teaching style.
- Conceptual teaching and problem-solving skills to connect English language arts to personal expression, media literacy, and cross-curricular learning.
