Responsibilities

• Provide personalized 1-on-1 online tutoring to middle school students.
• Accept on-demand tutoring requests when available.
• Guide students through literary analysis, informational text comprehension, grammar, writing conventions, vocabulary development, and speaking/listening competencies.
• Prepare students for high school English and standardized assessments by explaining theme analysis, figurative language, essay structure, and citation practices.
• Integrate reading, writing, grammar, and oral communication instruction to develop critical literacy skills.
• Adapt instruction using diverse materials, writing workshops, and grammar-in-context activities to support varying proficiency levels.
• Identify and address common student struggles using multiple teaching approaches tailored to individual learning needs.

Requirements

• Advanced subject mastery in middle school English, including literary analysis, grammar, writing conventions, vocabulary, and research skills.
• Familiarity with middle school ELA standards for grades 6–8 and common challenges (e.g., essay organization, grammar application).
• Ability to explain concepts using multiple approaches and adapt instruction to different learning styles.
• Strong communication skills and an engaging, friendly teaching style.
• Experience connecting English language arts to personal expression, media literacy, and cross-curricular learning.
