Responsibilities

• Provide personalized 1-on-1 online tutoring to middle school students.
• Accept on-demand tutoring requests when available.
• Guide students through literary analysis, informational text comprehension, grammar, writing conventions, vocabulary development, and speaking/listening skills.
• Prepare students for high school English and standardized assessments by teaching theme analysis, figurative language, essay structure, and citation practices.
• Integrate reading, writing, grammar, and oral communication instruction to develop critical literacy skills.
• Adapt instruction using diverse materials and methods to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Connect English language arts to personal expression, media literacy, and cross-curricular learning.

Requirements

• Advanced subject mastery in middle school English, including deep knowledge of literary analysis, grammar, writing conventions, vocabulary, and research skills.
• Familiarity with middle school ELA standards for grades six through eight and common challenges such as essay organization and grammar application.
• Ability to explain concepts using multiple approaches and adapt instruction to varying proficiency levels.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Experience identifying and addressing concepts students commonly struggle with.
