Mid-level Structural Engineer - Safety

In this role, you will gain hands-on experience designing practical fall protection solutions that help keep workers safe across a variety of industrial, commercial, and institutional environments. You will work alongside experienced structural engineering professionals, develop technical expertise through real project exposure, and build a strong foundation for long-term growth within LJB’s Safety team.

Responsibilities

• Document existing conditions as needed to accommodate additions of fall protection systems, including fixed platforms, fall arrest anchorages, and horizontal lifelines.
• Analyze building components used to support fall protection systems, including structural steel framing, cold-formed steel framing, and cast-in-place concrete.
• Develop a layout of fall protection systems to address customer needs and coordinate with the existing structure.
• Prepare calculations detailing engineering design.
• Assist with the preparation of construction documents.
• Coordinate with design staff to ensure accurate document and drawing production.
• Perform tasks within Revit and other CAD to execute assigned engineering tasks.
• Coordinate projects by communicating with clients regarding project issues and attending meetings.
• Maintain technical knowledge through completing various training initiatives: attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, and attending in-house systems/management training (LJB provided).
• Travel (overnight stays based on supported projects) to various US-based locations (50 to 75% travel).
• Understand and apply OSHA/ANSI fall protection standards.
• Pass background checks, drug tests, and MVR checks.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, architectural, or mechanical engineering (degree with structural emphasis preferred).
• 5+ years of engineering experience (knowledge and experience in the design of structural engineering projects and fall protection preferred).
• CAD experience (Revit and Bluebeam preferred).
• RAM or other structural analysis software experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Knowledgeable of industry codes and standards such as OSHA 1910 and ANSI Z359.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team settings.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to traverse worksite in different types of weather and bend, climb, stretch, reach, and lean to perform duties.
• Must meet the weight capacity of design perimeters of fall protection systems (between 130 to 310 lbs.).
• Understands exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

Pay

Salary range: $90,000 - $130,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.
