Mid-Level Radiation Health Physicist - Environmental Remediation

We’re seeking a Radiation Health Physicist to support projects primarily for our US Navy and uranium mining restoration clients, though our portfolio is broad and includes many other clients and projects.

We aim to grow and develop your career with task and project management. Projects will involve a variety of field implementations for radiological assessments and remediation, plan development, data evaluation, desktop research, and document reviews. You must have experience in environmental projects evaluating soil, groundwater, surface water, or sediments. Projects may be executed under EPA, NRC, Agreement States, USACE, or Tribal Agency authority and can include investigations, risk assessments, feasibility studies, engineering analysis, remedial actions, and closures.

Field tasks are expected and may include performing and/or leading teams during surveys and assessments. Responsibilities also include characterizing radiological materials in various matrices, implementing radiation safety practices, maintaining radiation protection programs, and ensuring regulatory compliance during project activities.

A balance of remote and office work is expected, with preference given to candidates located in Virginia, California, or Colorado. This position offers the opportunity to elevate your Health Physics career, working with and being mentored by highly professional, experienced, and credentialed Jacobs radiation services staff on a wide variety of health physics-related issues. Opportunities for leadership and ownership on projects are expected, and developing technical and project management skills will be further emphasized.

Responsibilities

• Perform and/or lead field tasks, including radiological assessments, surveys, and remediation efforts.
• Characterize radiological materials in various matrices (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediments).
• Implement and maintain radiation safety practices and radiation protection programs.
• Ensure regulatory compliance during project activities under authorities such as EPA, NRC, Agreement States, USACE, or Tribal Agencies.
• Develop plans, evaluate data, conduct desktop research, and review documents for radiological projects.
• Support investigations, risk assessments, feasibility studies, engineering analysis, remedial actions, and closures.
• Write clearly, present technical approaches, and justify decisions to clients and regulatory bodies.
• Take on leadership and ownership roles in projects, with opportunities to develop project management skills.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Radiation Health Physics or Nuclear Engineering.
• Experience with Navy environmental and remediation programs.
• Radiation safety officer experience.
• Experience in environmental projects evaluating soil, groundwater, surface water, or sediments.
• Willingness to perform field tasks, including travel and on-site work.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• M.S. in Health Physics or Nuclear Engineering.
• Certified Health Physicist (CHP) from the American Board of Health Physics.
• 10 to 15 years of professional Health Physics experience.
• Experience with CERCLA projects.
• Experience with radiological investigations or BRAC closures.
• Project management experience.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $85,000.00 to $127,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Schedule

This role follows a hybrid working policy, allowing employees to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations to deliver their best work.
