Mid-Level Grid Modernization Engineer

About the role

The Mid-Level Grid Modernization Engineer will be involved in projects with WSP’s Distribution Advanced Studies Team. They will be part of a growing organization that meets clients' objectives and solves their challenges. The ideal candidate will modernize utility distribution systems through planning, justification, and ongoing support of various programs.

Responsibilities

• Plan, justify, and support modernization of utility distribution systems through FLISR, Volt-Var Optimization, or similar programs.
• Lead and perform engineering tasks associated with critical or analytical projects.
• Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross-sections, and other illustrations.
• Exercise authority and technical leadership on strategic assignments with significant long-term implications.
• Track project schedules and budgets.
• Collaborate with professionals and engineers across disciplines on proposal and business development opportunities.
• Participate in industry working groups or standards (IEEE, CIGRE, IEC, ANSI).
• Present at industry conferences.
• Occasionally travel to support project requirements.
• Support other disciplines such as Protection, Planning, and SCADA.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer.
• Understanding of basic to advanced engineering theories and principles.
• Ability to work across teams, self-motivated, and take initiative.
• Strong command of English language with excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Pass client background screening processes.
• Proven track record of workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Engineering.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification or Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure.
• Experience managing small to mid-size projects.
• 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
• Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Pay

• Expected Salary Range: $107,500yr - $177,300yr (all locations)
• Expected Salary Range: $100,800yr - $166,400yr (Colorado only)
