The Microbiologist I position at Crete Analytical Laboratory, located at 3600 Eagle Nest Dr, North Building, Crete, IL 60417 USA, is a regular role open only to US employees. This role is part of a trusted public health mission to make food systems safer, healthier, and more sustainable.
Responsibilities
- Follow appropriate methods and SOPS on all tasks.
- Maintain quality control records.
- Read, calculate, record data in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Perform rapid test methods.
- Perform confirmation tests on suspect samples to identify the strain of bacteria.
- Read, enter and evaluate process control samples.
- Maintain knowledge of LIMS required to complete job responsibilities.
- Support root cause analysis investigations and suggest appropriate corrective actions.
- Prepare samples for analysis by recording, weighing and blending.
- Read, calculate and record analysis data to produce a report for the client.
- Correct any discrepancies that occur on the worksheet.
- Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process.
- Support department inventory management system.
- Perform confirmation tests on suspect plates or tubes to identify the strain of bacteria.
- Must participate in cleaning schedule and maintain retain samples as required.
- Must be able to perform preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment critical to sample analysis.
- Update equipment records on forms or in software systems as needed.
- Must keep up-to-date on assigned training.
- Adhere to all safety policies.
- Support laboratory management in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the management system.
- Perform other related tasks as needed.
Requirements
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends, specifically Saturday & Sunday.
- Communication: The main contacts with whom the position holder is repeatedly in contact with Internal Interlocutors: The incumbent has occasional contact with the personnel outside the immediate working unit.
- Knowledge: The incumbent must have a basic knowledge of microbiology to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain accurate results. Basic chemistry knowledge is needed to prepare the media to the specification of the sample. A basic knowledge of food science is necessary to analyze the microbiological content of samples.
- Profile (required education/qualifications and professional background): One (1)- 2 years of experience. The incumbent must have a general knowledge of microbiology to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain the correct results. Associates degree required, Bachelors preferred or equivalent work experience.
Skills
- Analytical skills are essential to complete analysis procedures and determine the concentration of the microorganism.
- A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to process client data.
- Physical dexterity is required for manipulating samples.
- A basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and practices is required to ensure a safe working environment.
- Interpersonal skills are required to effectively work within teams.

$20.00 - $22.00 hourly USD
