About the role
Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development.
Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
The selected applicant will lead Quality Assurance functions and oversee the development, review, and refinement of technical drawings and related products. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and a commitment to maintaining Ingalls’ high standards of quality and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Developing, reviewing, and updating technical drawings and documentation.
- Supporting ship modernization efforts by ensuring all technical requirements are fully incorporated into delivered products.
- Following all applicable procedures, standards, and quality requirements.
- Collaborating with engineering, design, and QA teams to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school of engineering and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering, and design or equivalent.
- Combination of education and experience in lieu of degree: High school diploma and 14 years or Associate's Degree and 10 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering, and design or equivalent.
Skills
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the requirements of Technical Specification 9090-600.
- Five (5) or more years of design or engineering experience in Electrical discipline (preferred).
