About the role
Inpatient General Medicine is seeking an administrative professional to work as a Unit Coordinator on the Days shift, providing rotating weekend and holiday coverage. Bigelow 7 is a fast-paced adult inpatient General Medicine unit dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care for patients with a wide range of acute and complex medical conditions, including Level 1 Trauma patients from the emergency and intensive care units. Ideal applicants seeking full-time 36-hour permanent employment will be strongly considered for an interview.
This position provides administrative support to unit-based and hospital-wide clinicians and staff, functioning as the liaison between patients, visitors, and clinicians. The role involves organizing priorities, completing tasks on time, managing confidential patient information, and coordinating day-to-day patient flow, including admissions, discharges, and transfers.
Responsibilities
- Performs clerical and other duties to assist in the general administration of the floor or unit.
- Greets and interacts with patients, families, visitors, and coworkers in person and via communication tools in a professional manner.
- Receives, prioritizes, organizes, and manages information at the central nursing station and throughout the unit.
- Schedules consultations, tests, procedures, and patient transport to other departments.
- Enters accurate and timely information about admissions, discharges, and transfers into the electronic medical record to facilitate efficient patient throughput.
- Contacts ancillary service departments to obtain equipment, services, and supplies; tracks status and location; uses designated process for identifying and facilitating repairs.
- May assist manager with payroll duties, scheduling of staff, or supervision of unit secretaries.
- Provides outstanding service for every customer interaction.
Duties may vary by department. This position does not require patient care.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required (Associate's Degree in a related field preferred).
- Administrative support experience: 1-2 years required.
- Certified Health Unit Coordinator (National Association of Health Unit Coordinators - NAHUC) preferred.
Skills
- Proficiency with office procedures and equipment (filing, copying, scanning, printing, faxing).
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Ability to proofread and edit written documents.
- Ability to use phone systems.
- Strong time management skills, including managing one's own time and the time of others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.

Schedule
- Days (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM), 3x shifts per week.
- Mandatory weekend shifts every other week.
- Rotating holiday schedule.
- Full-time, 36 hours per week.
Pay
Pay range: $18.58 - $26.58 per hour (Grade 3).
