Metallurgical Lab Technician

We are seeking a Metallurgical Laboratory Technician to support material testing and quality verification activities within our additive manufacturing operation. This hands-on laboratory role focuses on ensuring that metal materials and products meet engineering, customer, and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform metallurgical and material verification testing.
  • Prepare samples for testing, including sectioning, mounting, polishing, and etching.
  • Conduct elemental analysis and other material evaluations.
  • Evaluate microstructure, hardness, density, tensile properties, and fatigue properties.
  • Record and maintain accurate test data in quality and manufacturing systems.
  • Maintain calibration and functionality of laboratory equipment.
  • Track laboratory consumables and testing materials.
  • Support investigations of material issues and nonconformances.
  • Work closely with Materials Scientists, Process Engineers, and Quality Engineers.
  • Assist with PPAP, MSA, and FAI testing requirements.
  • Participate in safety, 5S, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support material and failure analysis projects as needed.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in metallurgical specimen preparation, material testing, or laboratory operations.
  • Quality inspection experience in a metals environment.
  • Experience operating precision measurement and testing equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree with 2+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree in a related field, or 4+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Atomic spectroscopy or gas combustion analysis experience.
  • ICP analysis preferred.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing or metal powder processes.
  • Microstructural analysis, hardness testing, or density testing experience.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing quality systems and digital documentation.
  • Knowledge of metal powder handling and testing.
  • Ability to follow and create laboratory procedures and work instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Work Environment

The role involves working in a laboratory setting with a focus on supporting the Aerospace industry. The position requires the ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.

This is a Contract, fully onsite position based in Monroe, NC.
