Metal Shop Programmer - 2nd Shift

Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and revise programs for the punch press.
  • Interpret and analyze blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Determine machining operations, sequence, cutting tools, and speeds/feeds.
  • Create setup sheets, tool lists, and work instructions for operators.
  • Simulate programs and perform test runs to verify accuracy and safety.
  • Optimize programs for efficiency, cycle time reduction, and tool life.
  • Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and work-holding solutions.
  • Troubleshoot programming issues and adjust programs as needed.
  • Maintain organized program files and documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve manufacturing challenges.

Qualifications

  • Minimum required education - High School Diploma. Associates degree or higher preferred, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 2–5+ years of CNC programming experience (machines depend on company needs).
  • Proficiency with CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of G-code, M-code, and CNC machine operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of machining processes, materials, tooling, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Able to lift to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Standard work week is Monday through Friday, typically 40 hours per week, overtime may be required, including evenings or weekends, based on production demands.
  • Physical exertion may vary depending on position type. May be required to regularly stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, frequently stand or walk around the work area, and lift or move objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Manufacturing Environment with exposure to high noise levels, heat, dust, and fumes. Subjective to seasonal weather conditions (hot in summer and cold in winter months).
  • Use of welding and cutting equipment, hand tools, and heavy machinery.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Assembling may involve manipulating small parts and using hand tools. Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity are essential for this job. Comfortable with occasional repetitive motions.
