Job Summary

A State and Local Tax (SALT) Manager advises clients on tax implications, recommends courses of action, and identifies compliance methods. This role involves marketing, business development, and tax compliance, consulting, and controversy representation.

Job Duties

  • Researches complex situations, analyzes findings, and prepares detailed reports.

  • Conducts detailed tax return reviews, responds to notices, and provides exam support.

  • Drafts tax memorandums, opinions, and documentation, and applies tax consulting specialties.

  • Manages client expectations, develops consultative selling strategies, and negotiates settlements.

  • Represents clients in tax authority disputes and utilizes tax-related software.

  • Provides technical client service, drafts technical memoranda, and negotiates disclosure agreements.

  • Develops new tax strategies, suggests marketing approaches, and assists in strategy implementation.

  • Supervises STS SALT Senior Associates and Associates on assigned engagements, trains on relevant software, evaluates performance, and provides feedback.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, preferred; Master’s degree in Accounting/Taxation or J.D., preferred
  • Four (4) years of prior experience in state and local/multistate experience or legal professional services, or equivalent through an advanced degree program
  • Prior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis
  • Prior experience preparing and/or reviewing tax provisions
  • Prior experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships
  • CPA certification or other relevant certification
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word
  • Familiarity with standard tax applications and research tools

Pay

National Range: $79,800 - $168,000
Maryland Range: $79,800 - $168,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $79,800 - $168,000
Washington DC Range: $79,800 - $168,000
