Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Tax Manager, State and Local Tax
Job Summary
A State and Local Tax (SALT) Manager advises clients on tax implications, recommends courses of action, and identifies compliance methods. This role involves marketing, business development, and representing clients in tax disputes. Responsibilities also include conducting tax research, preparing tax memorandums, and managing engagements.
Job Duties
- Researches complex situations requiring detailed analysis and reporting.
- Analyzes researched facts and sources to prepare detailed reports.
- Builds relationships with state and local tax department personnel.
- Reviews and responds to state tax notices and exam support.
- Drafts tax memorandums and opinions, and negotiates settlements.
- Utilizes tax software and research tools to complete tasks.
- Provides technical client service and tax planning advice.
- Develops new tax strategies and assists in client acquisition.
- Supervises junior staff, trains on software, evaluates performance, and provides feedback.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in business, preferred.
- Master’s degree in Accounting/Taxation or J.D., preferred.
- Four (4) years of prior experience in state and local/multistate experience or legal professional services.
- Prior experience supervising tax professionals.
- Prior experience preparing and/or reviewing tax provisions.
- Prior experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships.
- CPA certification or other relevant certification.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
- Familiarity with standard tax applications and research tools.
Pay
National Range: $79,800 - $168,000
Maryland Range: $79,800 - $168,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $79,800 - $168,000
Washington DC Range: $79,800 - $168,000
