MEPS – Bilingual Field Interviewer

About the role

Westat is seeking Bilingual Field Interviewers for the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS). MEPS is a study sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) that collects information on health care costs and usage in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person and computer-assisted video interviews in English and Spanish with adult members of households.
• Contact households to gain cooperation, set appointments, complete interviews, and collect signed documents.
• Travel to MEPS in-person training in January 2027 and to local and, at times, long-distance households for interviews.
• Transmit electronic data daily during data collection periods.
• Comply with all required data security and confidentiality requirements.

Requirements

• Fluent in both written and spoken English and Spanish.
• Available to complete mandatory web-based home study training and in-person training.
• Reside in and travel within designated areas to conduct interviews.
• Available to work the data collection period, mostly evenings and weekends.
• Able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, walk several blocks, and climb stairs.
• Have a reliable vehicle meeting Westat's minimum insurance requirements.
• Have a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Basic qualifications include being 18 or older, able to enter confidentiality agreements, and available for training and travel.
• Minimum requirements include successfully completing Westat language assessment protocols.

Skills

• In-person interviewing experience.
• Computer-assisted video interviewing experience.
• Public contact and cold calling experience.
• Comfortable working in unfamiliar locations and communicating with diverse backgrounds.

Benefits

This is a part-time, variable-hour, non-exempt position. Overtime pay is eligible. Health insurance and an HSA are not initially eligible but may be available based on hours worked. Paid vacation, holiday leave, sick leave, and participation in the 401(k) program are also available.

Pay

The hourly pay rate is $19.84. A health and welfare payment of $5.35 is paid weekly for up to 40 work hours per week.
