Responsibilities
- Insures that all Patient Rights are followed and adhered to.
- Participates in providing cost-effective, quality, efficient patient care, under the direction of licensed nursing personnel in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates leadership skills in de-escalation, seclusion, or restraint episodes following all hospital policies and procedures.
- Obtains and documents, vital signs, height, weight, intake, and output accurately and reports all findings to nursing personnel.
- Consistently alerts RN to changes in vital signs, inadequate intake, or changes in the patient’s condition.
- Completes admission tasks as required by unit including, cataloging of patient’s belongings and assisting RN in providing new patient orientation to unit/schedule.
- Limits patient’s belongings that are stored and follows hospital policy for safeguarding valuables.
- Recognizes and assists patients with ADL needs including bathing, ambulation, grooming and monitoring dietary intake taking into account the patients age and physical condition.
- Assists the RN in identifying patients at risk for falls and follows fall precaution policies.
- Provides care under the direction of a Registered Nurse to patients, including actions that meet their psychosocial, age specific, and physical needs.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of mental health disorders.
Qualifications
- Able to perform routine patient-care activities; physical strengths to assist patients in ambulating, turning in bed, and transferring in and out of bed or wheelchair.
- Good communication skills.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Able to perform simple arithmetic calculations.
- Able to understand and use medical terminology.
- Current BLS/CPR FIRE Card obtained within 60 days of employment.
- Initial MABPRO MAB or current MABPRO certification by completion of unit orientation.
- Advanced MABPRO certification by completion of unit orientation.
- Six months as a Mental Health Worker, Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic preferred.
- Minimum of six months adult Behavioral Health preferred, Acute Care, Long Term or sub-acute direct patient care experience within the last two years preferred; or a minimum of six months experience providing direct care, monitoring, and/or evaluation of individuals diagnosed with mental illness/disability or a medical condition.
