About the role
Oceans Behavioral Hospital Biloxi seeks a skilled Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) to support the nursing staff in creating a therapeutic environment. The BHT will assist in maintaining patient safety and providing comprehensive care.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to professional standards and follow policies and procedures.
- Apply supportive behavior and employ de-escalation techniques as needed.
- Inventories patient belongings and secures contraband.
- Maintains patient safety through unit safety checks.
- Complies with standard/universal precautions and infection control policies.
- Performs vital signs, weights, ADLs, intake and output documentation, nutritional monitoring, and communicates findings to the nurse.
- Ensures patients receive appropriate diets by reviewing dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences.
- Assists with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, and maintains belongings.
- Supports mobility needs of at-risk and/or physically challenged patients.
- Individualizes patient care activities based on age, disability, and cultural sensitivity.
- Communicates and documents patient observations, vital signs, nutrition intake, and findings accurately and within defined time lines.
- Communicates outcomes of assigned tasks to nursing staff and updates ongoing activities and patient needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent with CNA certification or at least 6 months of prior bedside, direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting.
- Must be able to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of age, disability, and cultural specific needs to effectively communicate with clients.
- Good physical and mental health demonstrated by a warm empathetic attitude, respect for dignity, worth, and potentiality of clients, and a high sense of personal integrity.
- Successfully completed CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral de-escalation program.
