About the Role

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Mental Health Technician (MHT) is responsible for observing and recording patient information pertinent to the treatment plan, welcoming new patients through specific admission protocols, assisting with the patient discharge process, and maintaining direct patient observation. The MHT leads patient education, community, goal, and activity groups, assists nursing staff by taking vital signs, and helps patients perform ADLs.

Due to the high visibility and significant patient interaction, this position is frequently the first responder to a variety of patient situations, i.e., codes, behavioral outbursts, attempts to introduce contraband, and medical issues. The MHT adjusts therapeutic approach to acuity, age, gender, and cultural considerations. Does not assume independent responsibility for patient care. Job duties are accomplished in a manner consistent with the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Voyages Behavioral Health.

Responsibilities

Experience

  • None required
  • A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience in an acute hospital, rehabilitation hospital, or skilled nursing unit is preferred
