Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Mental Health Technician (MHT) is responsible for:
- Observing and recording patient information pertinent to the treatment plan
- Welcomeing new patients through specific admission protocols
- Assisting with the patient discharge process
- Maintaining direct patient observation
- Leading patient education, community, goal, and activity groups
- Aiding nursing staff by taking vital signs and helping patients perform ADLs
- Frequently responding to a variety of patient situations such as codes, behavioral outbursts, attempts to introduce contraband, and medical issues
- Adjusting therapeutic approaches based on acuity, age, gender, and cultural considerations
Requirements
No prior experience is required. A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience in an acute hospital, rehabilitation hospital, or skilled nursing unit is preferred.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. A certification as a nursing assistant (CNA) is preferred where required by the state where the hospital resides. Current BLS certification is required. Crisis management certification per hospital policy and standards is required.
