About the role
The Mental Health Tech establishes a therapeutic relationship with assigned patients and helps patients with daily living. Responsible for the overall maintenance of a therapeutic environment. Works under close supervision.
Responsibilities
- Affords assistance with activities of daily living, toileting, feeding, and grooming.
- Makes beds and cleans rooms as needed.
- Takes and records patient vital signs including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and respirations under the supervision of a nurse.
- Aids in the admission process as directed.
- Provides assistance in group settings as necessary under the direction of a nurse or therapist.
- Affords assistance in moving patients from place to place on and off the unit or area where assigned.
- Affords assistance in laundering clothes as necessary or directed.
- Redirects patients and utilizes proper techniques to prevent patient aggression, falls, or injury.
- Retrieves medications from the pneumatic tube system and/or pharmacy and delivers them to the nurse and/or places medications in a secure location as determined by the nurse manager.
- Documents vital signs, activities of daily living, sleep hours, safety checks, and environmental checks as appropriate.
- Affords assistance in documenting group activities under the direction of a licensed professional.
- Notifies nurse, therapist, or physician of patient behaviors, needs, and safety concerns.
- Participates in treatment team processes.
- Conducts phone calls, takes messages, and delivers messages as appropriate.
- Orients patients to the program.
- Interacts with patients on a one-on-one basis in a therapeutic manner and reports relevant patient information.
- Conducts environmental safety checks and notifies the nurse of issues.
- Conducts patient safety checks as directed.
- Obtains and dispenses belongings as appropriate at admission, discharge, and throughout the stay.
- Follows organizational infection control procedures including, but not limited to handwashing and cleaning.
- Monitors patients for potential hazards.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Crisis Intervention Training within 90 days of employment.
- AHA BLS Certification.
Special Skills
- Proficient in the English language, verbal and written communications skills, basic computer skills.

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
