Mental Health Specialist - Temporary

About the role

The State of Vermont's Department of Mental Health is seeking temporary Mental Health Specialists to work in the Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital in Berlin, VT. These roles are available for the night shift.

Responsibilities

• Care for patients and maintain a therapeutic and clean environment in an assigned patient care area.
• Provide formal instruction and related clinical experience.
• Perform regular patient care duties under the direct supervision of a Psychiatric Nurse and/or a Senior Mental Health Specialist.
• May be required to provide training to other staff as a routine assignment.

Requirements

• One (1) year or more of work experience in a human services setting.
• Associate's degree or higher in a human services field.
• Experience in an inpatient psychiatric or community psychiatric care setting is preferred.

Qualifications

Your work will be performed under the direct supervision of a Psychiatric Nurse and/or a Senior Mental Health Specialist. The Mental Health Specialist may be required to provide training to other staff as a routine assignment.

Employees regularly interact with patients experiencing serious mental illness, who present with various levels of risk to self or others - assaultive behavior, elopement risk, self-harm; and may be exposed to infectious diseases and caustic detergents.

Benefits

Temporary appointments made from this job opening have the potential to become permanent classified. Temporary employees do not receive benefits and can not work more than 1520 hours per year. Temporary employees may very likely work 40 hours per week but could work less. The amount of hours worked will vary depending on current need.

Pay

The full salary range for this position is provided, but new hires are typically made at the salary range minimum.

Schedule

Incumbents may be assigned to any DMH Treatment facility and any shift. Employees regularly interact with patients experiencing serious mental illness, who present with various levels of risk to self or others - assaultive behavior, elopement risk, self-harm; and may be exposed to infectious diseases and caustic detergents.
