Job Summary

Mental Health Aide assists the Staff Nurse and Therapists in providing delegated tasks on the nursing unit. Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly work area.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED equivalent
• Requires successful completion of UTMC Healthcare Tech training course and maintenance of CPR/BLS certification thereafter
• One of the following preferred:
  • Successfully passed a State Approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam or State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) exam and has an active certification on the applicable state registry at the time of application
  • A recent graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Ability to write legibly, speak articulately, and follow directions accurately
• Ability to plan and organize work and to work under supervision
• Willingness to accept responsibility for patients in their care when performing delegated functions of this position and to perform delegated duties in accordance with established methods and procedures

Preferred Qualifications

• Successful completion of a State Approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam or State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) exam and has an active certification on the applicable state registry at the time of application
• A recent graduate of an accredited nursing program

Physical Requirements

• Visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color vision when applicable
• Ability to hear (with or without aides)
• Ability to orally communicate
• Good manual dexterity
• Ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently
• Ability to perform CPR
