Mental Health Aide

About the role

This position plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment at LCMC Health. The primary responsibilities include assisting in the monitoring of patient compliance with program rules, providing support to security and supportive manpower, and actively managing patient behavior.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu by monitoring compliance with program rules.
• Assists in controlling patients and reporting any safety issues to nursing staff.
• Completes patient observation sheets on assigned patients.
• Conducts group sessions (community group and activity therapy) with and without a preset agenda and format.
• Manages inappropriate patient behavior, difficult people, and complex situations during group sessions.
• Documents significant occurrences, observed behaviors, hazards I&O (if ordered), and observation findings in patient charts.
• Performs clerical duties related to support of unit activities as assigned.
• Communicates in a courteous and polite manner, offers assistance to visitors, and maintains a calm attitude in stressful environments.
• Adheres to all privacy laws and hospital policies regarding patient confidentiality.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• 2 years of work experience.
• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Non-Violent Crisis Prevention (CPI, NCI-CPI) certification from the Crisis Prevention Institute (training recommended during orientation).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.

• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
