About the role

Join our Behavioral Health Integration team as a Member Liaison Specialist (Behavioral Health) and help shape the future of healthcare. This position is integral to serving our members with dignity and respect, collaborating with providers, community partners, and local stakeholders to coordinate behavioral health services. The role is approved for Full Telework, requiring work within the State of California only. If Partial Telework is approved, you will also be required to work from the main office in Orange, CA, at least two days per week.

As a Member Liaison Specialist, you will assist Medi-Cal and OneCare members with behavioral health care management needs in a call center environment. Responsibilities include securing behavioral health appointments, following up with members, providing information, referring to community resources, and helping members navigate the behavioral health system of care. You will act as a consultative liaison between members, behavioral health providers, health networks, and community agencies, while participating in various behavioral health initiatives and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a mission-driven culture focused on high-quality performance, customer service, consistency, dignity, and accountability.
  • Assist the team in carrying out department responsibilities and collaborate with others to support short- and long-term goals.
  • Provide members with short-term care management support and secure behavioral health services appointments.
  • Coordinate members' behavioral health needs within and outside of CalOptima Health to ensure seamless care.
  • Collaborate and communicate with members, caregivers, and behavioral health network providers to support successful linkage to services.
  • Maintain documentation of member cases within the Medical Management system.
  • Initiate referrals to internal and external care management departments and other government agencies.
  • Develop and maintain a network of current community resources and services for member referrals.
  • Complete other projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience in behavioral health, community service, or other social service settings. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also qualify.
  • Access to approved transportation for work away from the primary office approximately 5% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health or a related field.
  • Experience with Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO), Medi-Cal, Medicare, or health services.
  • Bilingual in English and one of CalOptima Health’s defined threshold languages (Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese).

  • Utilize computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and job-specific applications/systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to visually read information from computer screens, forms, and printed materials.
  • Clear speech for conversation and communication via telephone and in-person interactions.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, reaching, flexibility, body movement (bending, crouching, walking, kneeling), and prolonged sitting.
  • Ability to lift and move objects, patients, and/or equipment weighing 10 to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

Work is typically indoors and sedentary, subject to schedule changes and variable work hours, with occasional travel. The noise level is usually moderate. If located at PACE, work may involve a clinical setting serving the frail and elderly, with potential exposure to harmful or hazardous conditions and moderate to loud noise levels. Community-based work may involve occasional outdoor exposure in varied temperatures.

  • Competitive compensation: Pay Grade 302 - $49,754 - $69,655 ($23.92 - $33.4880 per hour), with final salary based on education, experience, skills, and internal equity.
