Responsibilities
- Collaborate with department leadership to support department needs.
- Perform, interpret, and report clinical laboratory diagnostic tests on blood and body fluids.
- Maintain competency in licensed areas and perform testing as needed.
- Ensure continuous operation of testing analyzers, laboratory processes, and equipment by performing quality control and calibrations, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Cognitively correlate test results and relate them to patient treatment.
- Participate in the evaluation, implementation, and validation of new equipment and techniques.
- Aid in the orientation and training of new team members.
- Maintain laboratory supply and reagent inventory, place and expedite orders, and verify receipt of supplies.
- Conserve laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed.
- Timely review pending logs, resolve outstanding workload, and communicate findings to the next shift.
- Maintain laboratory workflow by fostering a cooperative spirit within the department and organization.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Adhere to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols, follow identification procedures, and protect patient confidentiality.
- Support departments outside the laboratory by providing assistance with medical laboratory technology.
- Communicate effectively by speaking and writing clearly, conveying information in a concise, organized, and logical manner.
- Act with integrity by being truthful, keeping confidences, promises, and commitments, and encouraging practices that support cultural diversity.
Qualifications
- Licensed as a medical technologist in the state of Florida. ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.
- Cognizant ability to correlate results from a variety of tests and relate to treatment of patient.
- Able to multitask and learn a variety of instrumentation and software systems to perform testing and result reporting.
- Microsoft Office skills.
Skills
- Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift up to 50lbs.
- Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation.
- TB/PPD Surveillance Program.
- Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s).
