Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technician/Part-Time/Days/South Suburban

About the role

This position is available as a part-time laboratory technician at ACL Laboratories - South Sub. The role is benefits eligible and works 20 hours per week, with shifts from 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. with rotating weekends and holidays.

Major Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated.
• Maintains workflow and adjusts as necessary to meet deadlines.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity, and appropriateness.
• Reports and notifies test results according to prescribed policies.
• Calibrates, maintains, and repairs laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Monitors and corrects malfunctions of instruments and equipment.
• Documents and reviews quality control and quality assurance procedures.
• Evaluates quality control results and implements corrective actions as needed.
• Ensures proper specimen labeling and suitability for testing.
• Collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocols.
• Provides guidance, training, and technical assistance to medical laboratory technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff.
• Aids in developing and implementing education and training protocols.
• Improves laboratory procedures, policies, and processes.
• Maintains compliance with accrediting agency standards and regulatory requirements.
• Supports critical care departments during high acuity patient events, including transfusion services, attending codes, testing on irretrievable samples, tissue grinding, gram stains, mass casualty procedures, and mass transfusion procedures.

Requirements

• Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC).
• Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, or Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or related field.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Sitting, standing, and walking for most of the workday.
• Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, radioactive, and infectious agents.
• Exposure to human blood and body fluids.
• Wearing appropriate lab coat, gloves, gowns, and eye and face protection.
• Operating all necessary equipment for the job.

Pay

$24.10 - $46.05 per hour, based on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and/or training.

Schedule

Part-time day shift hours from 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. with rotating weekends and holidays.
