Medical Technologist (Part Time)

The South Dakota Human Services Center is seeking a rare opening in their Medical Laboratory Department. This is a Part-Time >= 20 Hours Weekly position with the Department of Social Services.

About the role

This position involves taking call approximately one out of every five weeks and includes collecting blood samples, processing and packaging patient samples, running quality control samples, performing various types of laboratory tests, and assisting with administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Taking call approximately one out of every five weeks
• Collecting blood samples from clients in all treatment areas
• Processing and packaging patient samples for sending out for reference laboratory testing
• Performing general maintenance on laboratory analyzers and general laboratory equipment
• Running quality control samples on test systems per policy and ensuring proper functioning of analyzers
• Performing CLIA Waived testing and CLIA Moderately complex laboratory testing in the areas of hematology, chemistry, and urinalysis
• Absorbing administrative tasks as assigned

Requirements

• Works cooperatively with team members in the Laboratory, on the patient care units, and ancillary departments
• Displays high levels of professionalism, respect, and confidentiality
• Works independently and exercises good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions
• Is dependable and committed to providing accurate, timely lab results for the clients in our care
• Holds a 4-year degree in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science
• Has experience as an experienced phlebotomist
