About the role
The position involves performing, evaluating, and monitoring laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, and assisting in improving laboratory procedures and processes.
Responsibilities
- Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated.
- Makes necessary adjustments to workflow to complete work in an appropriate timeframe.
- Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity, and appropriateness.
- Follows prescribed policy in the reporting and notification of test results.
- Documents calibration and maintenance of instruments and equipment.
- Documents quality control and takes corrective action when indicated.
- Recognizes indicators of test or instrument malfunction and makes basic corrections or notifies supervisors.
- Performs and documents internal and external proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples.
- Collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol.
- Provides technical assistance to phlebotomists and support staff.
- Supports critical care departments such as the ED, ICU, and OR during high acuity patient events, including transfusion services, attending codes, and performing testing on irretrievable samples.
Requirements
- Obtain Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification within 1 year from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Lab Technician or related field.
- No experience required.

Pay
$24.10 - $46.05 per hour
Schedule
Full-time 3rd shift hours from 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. with rotating weekends and holidays.
