Medical Technologist Lead

Job Summary

The lead medical technologist performs clinical testing in various areas such as blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, microbiology, and manual tests. They obtain or receive specimens, perform laboratory tests, understand methods and principles, perform and evaluate quality control, inform the Administrative Director or Manager of issues, perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instrumentation, interpret results, organize work to meet deadlines, and record all data obtained. They also work actively and cooperatively with nursing and other hospital staff to ensure timely patient care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from an accredited college or university and successful score on a national examination for certification approved by the State Board;
• Completion of three years of academic study with a minimum of 90 semester hours at an accredited college or university in a curriculum involving biological or physical science and at least 12 months training at a school of medical technology approved by a national accrediting agency and pass a national examination for certification approved by the State Board;
• A Bachelor’s degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences at an accredited college or university, have at least one year of additional full time experience or training in the specialty or subspecialty in which they perform tests and pass a national examination for certification approved by the State Board;
• Current State license (within six months of hire date) or provisional license per State regulations as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist;
• General Supervisor license is required when working alone;
• Five (5) years’ experience as a medical technologist in a large clinical laboratory. Generalist experience in all areas of the laboratory is preferred.
