Responsibilities

  • Performs an acceptable productivity level without a significant error rate on a variety of medical technology procedures.
  • Examines growth patterns of bacteria and fungus in patient specimens and cultures.
  • Analyzes blood and other body fluids.
  • Performs blood compatibility testing.
  • Demonstrates initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances, promoting cooperation and minimizing disruption to the working environment.
  • Aids in the care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment.
  • Coordinates, plans, and utilizes time efficiently to prioritize and organize duties while remaining flexible to meet the needs of the laboratory customers.
  • Maintains and inventory of supplies in work areas to ensure efficient departmental operations and avoid duplication of energy and services.
  • Performs quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains accurate and complete records of daily activities.
  • Combines ethical judgment with technical skill within the policy and legal guidelines of the hospital and laboratory in decision making processes and in the performance of procedures.
  • Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
  • Exhibits a professional manner, appearance, and performance in the approach to job related duties to maintain high standards in the delivery of quality health care services.
  • Performs patient care duties in a manner that demonstrates a humanistic attitude for the physical and psychological needs relevant to the age of the patient served.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, pathologists, staff, and other individuals.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • Licensure: Licensed in Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist (CLS-G) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist – Specialist (CLS-S) with Registry in applicable specialty for department and position.
