About the role

This full-time day position (5:00 AM – 1:00 PM) involves performing all levels of testing complexity and analysis on biological specimens to provide information used in the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of disease. You will utilize a variety of procedures requiring professional judgment, including detailed tests and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Perform phlebotomy via capillary puncture and venipuncture using sterile techniques, ensuring proper procedure to prevent trauma, hematoma, and sepsis (includes pediatric and geriatric collections with age-specific considerations).
  • Follow appropriate procedures for labeling and patient identification.
  • Perform routine, special, and automated tests in clinical chemistry using proper technique and equipment.
  • Conduct manual microscopic cell identification.
  • Perform and document proper maintenance on all analyzers.
  • Execute quality control on all equipment with proper documentation.
  • Perform serological kit tests as instructed, following manufacturer guidelines.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments, including their inter-relationships.
  • Recognize problems, identify causes, and determine solutions.
  • Check inventories and request supplies, reagents, and materials; unpack and store reagents appropriately.
  • Perform routine blood bank procedures, including preparing units for transfusion with conscientious attention to detail.
  • Follow guidelines for proper handling of blood products, including electronic inventory and tracking processes.
  • Maintain diligent records and strict adherence to procedures for safety.
  • Perform QA processes and documentation as required.
  • Comply with the hospital Legal Compliance Program, safety policies, and infection control procedures, including isolation techniques and personal protective equipment standards.
  • Maintain a neat, clean work environment.
  • Use all electronic and data equipment following HIPAA and facility guidelines.
  • Complete tasks as requested by the Lab Director.

Requirements

  • AAS degree in Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited college is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Lab Technician from a recognized laboratory registry organization is desirable.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.
  • Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain licensure and/or certification.
