About the role

This team primarily works remotely from home supporting our patients, clinics, and endoscopy centers. Candidates must reside and work in Washington State (excluding Seattle, WA). The Medical Records Specialist supports practice operations by ensuring that patient medical records, demographics, and clinical data are accurate and complete, and provides clinical information as needed to outside partners to ensure a high level of patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately file private health information into patient medical records within the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system in accordance with regulatory guidelines and organization policies and procedures
  • Examine and confirm the authenticity and completeness of all records
  • Perform clerical functions including chart maintenance and processing incoming correspondence (i.e., faxes including outbound and failed)
  • Retrieve archived records electronically from off-site storage as needed
  • Respond to requests for patient records from referring providers, billing, or outside agencies
  • Confirm HIPAA authorization to disclose
  • Request medical records from referring providers
  • Retrieve records electronically from hospitals, diagnostic services, or clinics
  • Track hospital procedure reports and charges
  • Assist the clinical staff in all aspects of medical record recording and access
  • Chart prep for upcoming visits as needed
  • Track and close patient medical orders
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a medical setting with experience in medical records
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a customer-service environment or administrative role
  • Must reside and work in Washington State (excluding Seattle, WA)
  • Minimum internet connection requirements and surge protection in your home
  • A home work environment free from distractions, background noise, and potential hazards (e.g., tripping hazards, electrical hazards)
  • Ability to secure and protect WAGI-supplied computer, phone, and systems, ensuring protection of Personal Health Information (PHI)

Physical Activities and Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting/stationary work and performing administrative duties including the use of computers and phones
  • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, and reach (rarely)
  • Able to lift and carry supplies and equipment as needed (up to 25 pounds)

Pay

This is an hourly position with an anticipated compensation range of $17.13 - $21.00. The hired applicant is also eligible for annual discretionary bonuses.

Schedule

This position follows a standard schedule based on the hours of operation and primarily works remotely from home, with training conducted onsite at the primary clinic.
