GI Alliance is seeking an experienced Medical Records Coordinator to assemble patient information into medical charts/records accurately and completely.
Responsibilities
- Assembles patients’ health information including patient symptoms, medical history, exam results, X-ray reports, lab tests, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
- Reviews records to ensure all forms are completed, properly identified, signed, and organized in preferred style (e.g., chronological).
- Communicates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses or obtain additional information.
- Submits files/documentation to physicians and clinicians for review, quality assurance, and other purposes.
- Provides charts/documents for legal actions, following patient consent and confidentiality protocols.
- Manages the patient portal for the medical office.
- Uses practice management software to store, analyze, and retrieve data for patient care, cost control, surveys, or research.
- Protects patients’ health information for confidentiality, authorized access, and data security.
- Accesses and updates referral software to improve patient care and meet quality metrics.
- Trains new Medical Records clerks.
- Manages inbound fax queue.
- Serves as administrator for hospital portal/medical records access.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma (Associate degree from a community/junior college preferred).
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience as a medical records specialist, preferably in a medical practice setting.
- Demonstrated leadership, viewed as a leader by staff.
- No performance or disciplinary actions in the last year.
- Serves as mentor/trainer for new hires.
- Considered a subject-matter expert by peers, management, and physicians.
Skills
- Ability to organize information chronologically and alphabetically.
- Analyzes medical records for completeness and accuracy with strong attention to detail.
- Effectively schedules time and assignments.
- Multi-tasks efficiently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and EMR software.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations related to patient information.
- Skill in inputting information into medical record systems to meet clinic standards.
Work Environment
- Pleasant and comfortable office setting with minimal patient contact.
- Involves standing, sitting, bending, and reaching.
- May work at computer monitors for prolonged periods.

- Medical records equipment and supplies, including computer hardware/software, manual files, and sorters.
