Job Profile

The Comprehensive Oncology Service at Penn Vet is recruiting a nurse coordinator for the Medical Oncology section. This administrative position is responsible for managing the Medical Oncology schedule and is ideally suited for an experienced nurse seeking to leverage their clinical knowledge and expertise in a non-clinical, office-based role.

Serving as a key frontline representative of the Medical Oncology team, this individual must exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and a positive, collaborative approach.

Job responsibilities

  • Serving as the primary contact person for scheduling new and recheck appointments for Medical Oncology
  • Extensive email and phone communication with existing clients, potential new clients, and correspondence with referring DVM’s
  • Reviewing and triaging new patient appointment requests, utilizing clinical knowledge and established guidelines to ensure appropriate scheduling with Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, or Surgical Oncology services
  • Requesting records for new patients and uploading to the current hospital software
  • Working efficiently across various hospital software applications while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Working collaboratively with the other Comprehensive Oncology nurse coordinators for Surgical Oncology and Radiation Oncology
  • Balancing a high volume recheck schedule based on nursing and clinician coverage
  • Assisting with submitting radiology requests for routine rechecks as needed
  • Flexibility to navigate changing hospital policies, procedures, and system enhancements, including the rollout of a new EMR system

Qualifications

  • CVT and 5-8 years of experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in veterinary medicine
  • Prior veterinary oncology experience preferred
  • Strong medical knowledge base
  • Requires strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills is essential
  • Must be able to work independently

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level.
