About the Role
Under direct supervision of the provider, this position is responsible for patient assessment and care, maintaining appropriate documentation, and coordinating care to ensure high-quality, compassionate patient services. The role acts as a liaison with other organizations and departments, manages medical and office supplies, and ensures compliance with policies, OSHA guidelines, CLIA regulations, and other regulatory agencies. The position also involves training new employees, students, and float staff, providing patient education, and assisting with specialty care modalities.
Responsibilities
- Triage all calls, schedule daily urgent/emergent add-ons, and relay test results (30%).
- Support, direct, and refer patients for consults, testing, insurance pre-certification, and documentation (30%).
- Greet patients and/or family, perform routine pre-examination procedures (e.g., vital signs, recording objective/subjective data), and update/maintain accurate patient records (20%).
- Perform medication reconciliation, enter allergy reaction types, and process prescription refills within certification scope.
- Assist providers with examinations and procedures (20%).
- Prepare and clean patient areas, set up equipment, and sterilize medical instruments.
- Provide complete patient assessments, administer injections, perform minor dressing changes, and obtain blood specimens.
- Demonstrate competency in assisting with procedures such as EKG, Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABI), and Non-stress Test (NST), as required by the department.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and co-workers; travel to satellite clinics if applicable.
- Utilize necessary computer systems, including MAPS, MCIR, Practice Management, Electronic Medical Records, LIS, Emageon, and dictation systems.
- Demonstrate critical thinking for patient management while maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
- Perform clerical duties such as insurance forms, correspondence, hospital admissions, telephone support, and medical record filing.
- Order supplies and medications, document and code patient conditions accurately, and participate in annual quality reviews.
- Address age-specific needs of the population served and perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of specialty and/or primary care.
- Competency in Microsoft Windows and willingness to participate in further learning opportunities.
- Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- High level of confidentiality and adherence to patient rights and HIPAA regulations.
