About the role
Beth Israel Deaconess Milton is seeking a Medical Office Coordinator - Clinical to work in their Community Physician Association (CPA) Medical Office. This role involves supporting a Family Medicine physician practice and fulfilling responsibilities to the CPA office.
Responsibilities
- Displays courtesy and professionalism at all times while providing timely, helpful service to all patients, visitors, physicians and other associates.
- Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
- Interviews and determines patient's health needs and chief complaint for appropriate treatment.
- Measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height and records information in patient's chart.
- Drapes patient with covering and positions instruments and equipment if necessary. Assists physician in exam if needed.
- Inspects and maintains patient records to ensure completeness.
- Administers injections or treatments (as allowed for medical assistants), under the direction of a physician and performs routine laboratory tests.
- Operates and performs routine diagnostic tests in office, such as electrocardiograph or nebulizer.
- Calls medical facilities or specialists to schedule patients for off-site testing.
- Triage patient telephone calls for appropriate treatment when requested. Returns telephone calls to patients or calls relating to patients for prescription, treatment or diagnostic data when requested.
- Processes all prescription requests from pharmacies, patients, and physicians.
- Inventories and orders medical supplies, vaccines and other patient-related materials.
- Sterilizes instruments and maintains diagnostic equipment.
- Completes documentation and tracking for all clinical, laboratory and pharmaceutical areas.
- Receives, organizes, and tracks the handling and distribution of medication samples.
- Aids in scheduling of patients and performs secretarial tasks as needed.
- Aids in data entry of patient-related information in practice management software to maintain office and patient records.
- Aids in creating and updating office policies.
- Attends mandatory in-service programs on Universal precautions, Disaster Plan, Electrical and Fire Safety and Hazardous Communications.
- Complies with all hospital and department safety practices.
- Reports to work consistently and promptly.
- Provides proper advance notice of absence or tardiness.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Under the direction of the Manager, Physician Services, accomplishes assigned duties within scope of established department and Community Physicians Associates policies and practices.
- Reports to physician regarding medical questions and direction; reports to manager regarding business matters.
Qualifications
- Certified graduate of a medical assistant course or practical nurse program.
- Previous clinical experience required.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and terminology.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to be flexible in schedule.
- Broad knowledge of the workings of both Milton Hospital and the Community Physicians Associates.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, health insurance programs and a variety of computer software including GE/Centricity Practice Management and Pocket Script Software, MediTech, Microsoft Word, Excel and medical office billing programs.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move throughout the shift.
- Ability to speak the English language in an understandable manner and convey information effectively through written and oral communications.
- Ability to cope with the mental and emotional demands of the position; handle emergency/problematic situations and issues of a confidential nature.
- Ability to operate office, business and accounting machines data processors, word processors, etc.
- May be required to lift and move small equipment and supplies.
