About The Role

Hall Prangle is seeking to hire a full-time Paralegal in its Las Vegas office who has at least five (5) years’ experience as a litigation paralegal (knowledge of medical malpractice/healthcare law is a plus). The paralegal will work collaboratively alongside a team of attorneys and other staff during all phases of the litigation process, from the initiation of a case to the discovery period, through trial. The right candidate will be skilled and hard-working as well as pleasant and personable.

Responsibilities

Billable Responsibilities (Billable hours goal of 1400 hours per year)

  • Organize documents and coordinate document productions, including Bates-stamping, redaction, duplication, and indexing of documents.
  • Set up and maintain files organized chronologically, numerically, and/or by subject matter.
  • Under the guidance of an attorney, categorize documents by subject matter, prepare a chronology of facts, and create production charts.
  • Conduct various document searches and basic background checks, culling relevant information from online sources such as social media, court filings, and Westlaw to assist attorneys in investigating claims.
  • Damage Computations: Identify and manage all incoming information relevant to damage computations, continuously updating computations related to the case using Excel.
  • Written Discovery: Coordinate with attorneys in finalizing responses to written discovery and corresponding document production, including redacting and preparing privilege logs.
  • Medical Records: Identify and manage incoming information relevant to treating providers and collaborate with the Records Coordinator in obtaining and producing all records throughout discovery.
  • Act as liaison among various internal departments as well as with outside agencies, overseeing the progress of documents through litigation support departments.
  • Prepare for trials: Organize exhibits, files, and all other supporting documents; coordinate and perform trial set-up and logistics; finalize exhibits for submission to the court; load all trial exhibits and relevant trial documentation to trial iPads; and serve as liaison between trial attorneys and in-house staff.
  • Adhere to Hall Prangle Time Entry policies to ensure all worked time (billable and non-billable) is entered into the time and billing system within firm-established deadlines.

Each month, time worked per time entry software will be reviewed/compared to time entries entered into the time and billing system for reasonableness. The Billable Hours requirement is pro-rated for individuals hired for a partial year or for those that make use of a qualified leave of absence under the FMLA or take other legally protected leave during the review year.

Requirements

  • 5+ years as a Paralegal within a law firm supporting attorneys practicing defense litigation.
  • Knowledge of concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures of the law.
  • Knowledge of functions and jurisdictions of local, state, and federal courts and related agencies.
  • Highly proficient using MS Office Suites: Word, Excel, Outlook, Billing Software, and Online Document Management Software, such as KOFAX PDF program, and Filevine.
  • Highly proficient in maneuvering functions through Windows, such as managing and editing documents within File Explorer to finalize document productions.
  • Knowledge of document assembly such as converting files to PDF, combining PDF files, and extracting pages from PDF files.
  • Expertise in using Outlook Calendars to manage all upcoming deadlines for assigned cases.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining documents, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, and copying; coordinating case preparation.
  • Experience in billing your own hours through billing software.
  • Must be highly organized, able to multitask and juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong time management skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
