Medical Malpractice Defense Litigation Senior Associate
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Medical Malpractice Defense Litigation Senior Associate to join an established litigation practice in Concord, NH. The ideal candidate will have 3–5+ years of defense-side medical malpractice litigation experience and be capable of managing matters from inception through resolution with full file responsibility. This is an excellent long-term opportunity for an attorney who wants to take ownership of complex litigation matters while developing toward a potential leadership and partnership opportunity. The practice has substantial existing work, with retiring partners expected to transition established client relationships and practices to the next generation of attorneys.
Responsibilities
- Defend medical malpractice and medical professional liability matters from inception through resolution.
- Maintain full responsibility for assigned files and litigation strategy.
- Manage discovery, depositions, motions, hearings, and other litigation proceedings.
- Work directly with physicians, hospitals, healthcare providers, insurers, clients, opposing counsel, experts, and courts.
- Identify and retain appropriate expert witnesses and coordinate expert discovery.
- Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other litigation documents.
- Prepare cases for mediation, arbitration, and trial.
- Participate in trials as experience permits.
- Manage a substantial caseload while maintaining strong client service and case organization.
- Develop effective litigation strategies and communicate case status and recommendations to clients and insurers.
- Collaborate with partners and other attorneys on complex litigation matters.
Requirements
- 3–5+ years of medical malpractice defense litigation experience.
- Defense-side experience is required.
- Experience representing physicians, hospitals, healthcare providers, insurers, or other healthcare professionals is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage litigation matters from inception through resolution.
- Experience with discovery, depositions, motion practice, hearings, and expert witnesses.
- Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and courtroom advocacy skills.
- Excellent communication and client-service abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple litigation files independently and effectively.
- Strong organizational and case-management skills.
- Trial experience preferred.
Important Candidate Requirement
Plaintiff-side medical malpractice attorneys without meaningful defense-side experience will not be considered.
Work Arrangement
This position is based in Concord, New Hampshire. Office/hybrid position with a minimum of 4 days per week in the office initially. Some flexibility for remote work, potentially 3–4 remote days per week thereafter, based on performance and firm needs.
