Position Summary

Responsible for coordination of student medical records, clinical instruction and student evaluation. Will act as a liaison between both the university and the clinical affiliate. Responsible for assisting with the clinical supervision, instructions, and evaluation of the MLT/Phlebotomy students. Report directly to the Program Director. Candidate will be instructing in all areas of concentration for Medical Laboratory Technician, available for day and evening class instruction for MLT program, coordinate MLT clinical rotations, and perform clinical instruction at clinical sites for MLT. The candidate will assist the program in maintaining approval status with NAACLS. This is a 12-month faculty position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop instructional materials to include syllabi, course objectives, and course outlines.
  • Coordinate and schedule clinical rotation with healthcare facilities.
  • Assistant to Program Director.
  • Precept students at clinical sites.
  • Supervise 6 clinical preceptors.
  • Acts as a liaison between clinical sites and the MLT program.
  • Facilitate online courses via Canvas.
  • Develop courses utilizing Canvas.
  • Advise students on academic and professional aspects of the MLT program.
  • Instruct a course workload of a maximum of 15-18 credit hours.
  • Assist in implementation of student recruitment and conduct interviews.
  • Maintain student program records utilizing Banner and Canvas.
  • Actively participate in MLT/Phlebotomy related organizations, such as district, state, or national.
  • Evaluate student applications for admissions.
  • Allied Health Mixer Student Program Advisory Board.
  • Responsible for overseeing the students in rotation.
  • Responsible for developing and accessing SLO.
  • Will work closely with the Program Director to maintain the daily operational duties of the program.
  • Will help develop and implement recruitment ideals for the program.
  • Will assist with program development and curriculum changes.
  • The candidate will assist the program in maintaining approval status with NAACLS.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum of three-five (3-5) years teaching in MLT didactic and clinical instruction.
  • Bachelors of Science degree or higher MLS/CLS.
  • Current ASCP or Equivalent.
  • Current Louisiana State License.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of MLS/CLS lab work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum teaching experience of 2-3 years and a minimum of 3-5 years work experience in Clinical lab science as a MLS/CLS.
  • Associate degree in MLT with 5-7 years of MLT work experiences and 3-5 years clinical instruction with MLT students in all CLS lab areas: Immunohematology, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Immunology.
  • Current State and National licenses (applicant will be considered).
