About the role

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments/procedures.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument/equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Ensure reagents/test kits are dated and properly stored.
  • Document and make quality control decisions regarding assay disposition.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Assist in training other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practices as directed.
  • Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
  • Participate in government/regulatory agency inspections.
  • Assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year full-time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting (high complexity testing).
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in the present department.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and manual dexterity required.
  • Comprehensive theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty.
  • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
  • BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.
  • Preferred: ASCP Certification, MLS, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Lab Scientist, Med Tech, Medical Technologist, CLS, Clinical Lab Scientist.

Skills

  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.

Prioritization

The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds frequently, and objects over 50 pounds with assistance.

Education

A BS in Medical Technology is preferred; alternatively, a BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or an Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493 is acceptable.

License/Certification

ASCP Certification is preferred, but not required.
