Medical Laboratory Scientist I - Spec Chem LCMS

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments/procedures.
• Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument/equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
• Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
• Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record-keeping.
• Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
• Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
• Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
• Inform supervisory personnel of problems related to test procedures and cooperate with investigations.
• Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports.
• Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results, including STAT or critical results.
• Ensure reagents/test kits have correct dates and maintain proper documentation.
• Perform and document Quality Control (QC) analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function.
• Make quality control decisions regarding assay or test disposition.
• Report any deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures.
• Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
• Participate in government/regulatory agency inspections.
• Assume lead responsibilities if qualified and delegated.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or qualifying as a Technologist under 42 CFR493.1489.
• Foreign-educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from NACES or AICE.
• 1 year laboratory experience and/or training in high complexity testing in the specialties/sub-specialties in which testing will be performed.
• Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods, lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds, walk, and use manual and automated laboratory instruments.
• Proven problem-solving skills, detail-oriented, able to work independently, establish priorities, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to handle telephone inquiries and confidential client information.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems.
• Ability to plan, organize, and complete work assignments under stressful conditions.
