About the role

Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring the exercise of independent judgement and responsibility in those specialties in which they are qualified by education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot all applicable instruments/procedures in the department.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed.
  • Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
  • Assume lead responsibilities if qualified and delegated.

Requirements

  • Chemistry-focused lab areas (Automated Chemistry, Immunoassay, LCMSMS, Special Chemistry, Toxicology)
  • Medical Lab Scientist must meet one of the following certifications:
    • Bachelor of Science with certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), or National Registry of Certified Chemists (NRCC), or the American Medical Technologists (AMT) dated after 1/1/2014, or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).
    • BSMT, Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, from accredited college or university in the US
    • BS or BA degree with a major in Chemistry or Biochemistry from an accredited institution, plus 1- year full-time testing experience and/or training in a clinical laboratory setting.
    • BS or BA degree in a biological science from an accredited institution, with 25 semester units in Chemistry, including Analytical Chemistry & Instrumentation, plus one (1) year full-time testing experience and/or training in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Physical and mental requirements: ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods, lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds, frequent walking and standing, significant manual dexterity, and confidentiality of client information.
  • Skills: proven problem-solving skills, detail-oriented, can work independently, establish work priorities, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems, and ability to communicate effectively.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, BS or BA in Chemistry or Biochemistry, or BSMT from an accredited institution, with relevant coursework and experience.
  • Experience: 1 year laboratory experience and/or training in high complexity testing.
  • Knowledge: theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty, organizational/departmental policies and procedures.

Pay and Schedule

Pay range: $35.78 - $48.06 / hour; eligible for shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and market and organizational factors.

Schedule

Friday to Tuesday, 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
